About The Vaginal Microbiome
The community of microorganisms present in the vagina are closely connected to human health and the female reproductive system.
It’s been known the vaginal microbiome is relatively less diverse compared to the gut microbiome, but what is fascinating is that there are differences from woman to woman.
Now a new longitudinal clinical study by researchers from Stanford University and the University of Alabama at Birmingham looked at the dynamics of this microbial ecosystem, particularly what happens to the vaginal microbiome during and after pregnancy.
The findings are quite surprising. For example, the composition of the vaginal microbiome can depend on if, and how long ago, the woman had a previous baby. Amazing huh?!
