A new Danish study of labouring women found…
- 80% of time was spent in “sacrum non-flexible positions” during the last 24 hours before childbirth.
- Over 90% of women gave birth in “sacrum non-flexible positions.”
Sacrum non-flexible positions are birthing positions that put weight on the sacrum and restrict the movement of the coccyx.
Examples of non-flexible sacrum positions:
- Lying on your back
- Semi-recumbent (lying back but with upper body elevated)
- Lithotomy (lying back with knees bent, raised above hips)
- Sitting in bed
