A new study looking at how mode of birth affects a child’s neurodevelopment found something that all expectant parents (and healthcare professionals) might want to know….

Being born by C-section can impact their child’s neurodevelopment.

The study showed a potential link between being born by C-section and lower motor and language development scores up until 3 years old.

The study by Fritz J et al., was published in Sci Rep. in October 2024.

The Study:

The study looked at associations between birth mode and neurodevelopment in young children. The study included two Mexican birth cohorts covering births from 1995 to 2013.

Using psychometric assessments, the researchers used data from the cohort ELEMENT (Early Life Exposures in Mexico to Environmental Toxicants) which included observations of 1402 children aged 2 to 36 months.
