New research: Educating fathers on breastfeeding and breast milk increases the rate and continuity of exclusive breastfeeding

A new randomised control trial (RCT) from Iran shows that educating fathers of newborn babies about the “benefits of breast milk” and how to support breastfeeding not only improves mothers’ breastfeeding practice, but also increases the rate and continuity of exclusive breastfeeding.
The Study:
The study by Panahi F. et al. published in BMC Health Res. (2022) included 76 fathers from a health centre in Iran in 2018.
The fathers were recruited from attendees to a health center for receiving postpartum care. Each father had a baby aged 3 to 5 days old.
The fathers were randomly assigned to two groups — an intervention group and control group.
